Buat gw yang  internet addict , bisa internet kapan dan dimana saja merupakan sebuah hal yang priceless,  udah segitu parahnya ya…Setelah gonta-ganti berbagai macam provider dan paket internet akhirnya ketemu juga yang dirasa cukup pas :

Wah kok jadi kayak iklan gini ya? OK biar adil sedikit flashback dari waktu ke waktu mengenai koneksi internet yang gw pernah pakai

1995-1996: Wasantara Net

Jelas-jelas ini sih nebeng di rumah temen. Jaman gw SMP jangankan internet, komputer saja aku tak punya. Jaman ini harga komputer sekitar 3-4 jutaan, wow komputer harga USD 1500-2000 , padahal cuma 486. Koneksinya jangan tanya deh selambat apa tapi tetep seneng bisa browsing, soalnya tidak ada pilihan lain. Kebayanglah anak SMP, website yang dibuka nggak ada yang jelas.

1997:Melsa Net
Masih nebeng juga di rumah temen.

1998: Warnet
Yuhuuu! akhirnya punya komputer juga, PC 386 AT + Printer Epson LX-800, beli bekas seharga Rp 1 juta ,  meski masih windows 3.11 wuih rasanya seneng banget! at least kalau mau ngetik buat tugas nggak usah ke rental komputer. Berhubung harga modem dial-up masih dirasa mahal, sekitar  Rp.500 ribu , internet masih tetap nebeng.

1999-2001:wasantara net
Pake wasantara net gara-gara dapet “pinjeman” password dari temen, intenetnya sih gratis, tapi tetap saja tagihan telpon lokal jadi membengkak.

2002-2007: telkomnet
No comment.

2003:IM3 , MATRIX
Awal tahun 2003 layanan internet GPRS dilaunching oleh IM3, tapiharga yang dipasang tidak logis mahalnya, akses data per 1 KB dikenai biaya 15 rupiah,  Rp.4500 sudah berkurang hanya untuk membuka halaman utama yahoo. Ada sedikit angin segar ketika pertengahan tahun 2003 ada paket promo internet unlimited dari Indosat Marix via GPRS, namun sayang hanya beberapa bulan saja.

Sedikit menyimpang dari topik,” Kenapa  gw bisa addict? ” Balik lagi ke tahun tahun 2005,  gw kenalan sama cewek, awalnya kenalan lewat SMS, berlanjut ke chatting, efeknya membuat saya selalu dan selalu pengen chat sama dia, meskipun secara lokasi deket, masih sekampus ,  entah kenapa kayaknya lebih nyaman kalau ketemunya di yahoo messenger daripada ketemu langsung.

Mungkin anda sudah sering menerima brosur atau spam e-mail mengenai bisnis di Internet yang menawarkan investasi rendah dengan hasil yang tinggi, nah kalau hasil keuntungannya lebih besar dari bunga deposito di bank(8% /tahun) dapat disimpulkan itu cuma penipu!

Bensin mobil boros?

Kalau merasa bensin mobil boros terutama ketika dipakai dalam kota, mungkin ada baiknya jangan langsung menyalahkan mesin mobil nya yang nggak beres.

Pengalaman saya, pake kijang di dalam kota 1 liter cuma bisa 7 km, sampe pada suatu hari ada yang memberi saran kepada saya, sarannya simple “Jangan ngerem mendadak!” Setelah dipikir-pikir & kemudian dipraktekkan, ternyata sarannya mujarab juga 1 liter bisa sampe 12 km, meski jalannya macet.

HSDPA – Modem

I’m little concused choosing HSDPA modem between Option GT Max and Sierra 875. Both of them are used by cingular. Then I found that there are two sub version of OptionGT max, there are GX0201 and GX0202. The GX 0201 antenna is optimized for 2100 MHz frequency and GX0202 for 1900 Mhz frequency. But on the Option web site the sub version of GT max, explicitly mentioned on the Option GT Max 7.2 Mb ready

Of course the best method to compare between two of them is testing on the HSDPA network. I’m interesting to the Option GT Max because they have retractable antenna, but I finally decide to buy Sierra 875 first because on my Country the UMTS network used the frequency 1900/2100 MHz, and I didn’t found the GX 0201 on the market.

When I choose the most valuable x86 processor under US$100, simply there are two choices AMD X2 3800+(2GHZ clock, 2×512kb L2 cache) or Intel 920(Dual Core 2.8 Ghz 2×2MB L2 Cache). The Intel processor looks more promising,because the L2 cache is higher and the core clock is higher too.

How should I compare of those two?

Simply, because my current reseearch is about optimizing H.264 encoder, so I tested those two processor by comparing the H.264 encoding speed.

I use VLC 0.862 (videolan.org) for video live streaming, the video source is from My TV tuner.

The codec using h.264 (x264 library is included on the VLC). The video stream output resolution is 720×576.

The detailed settings for VLC:

The result shows that the AMD X2 3800+ is great for live streaming encoding, only few dropped frames are found, less than 1%. The processor load at most 95%.

In other side the Intel 920 can not handle the required processing power for the live streaming encoding, the video stream output is freeze. When I decrease the resolution to 352×288, the output video stream is shows up. The processor load at most 95%.

Finally I decided to buy AMD X2 3800+, for my research purpose on H.264 live streaming encoder.
